1.) What is an AAHA Hospital?
The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) is a voluntary organization of companion animal hospitals requiring high standards of patient care with periodic hospital evaluations. Member hospitals are evaluated in many areas including nursing care, diagnostic and laboratory services, anesthesiology, surgery, dentistry, housekeeping, record keeping and continuing education. Hiway 620 Animal Hospital is proud to be one of fourteen AAHA accredited hospitals in Austin.

2.) Do you operate by appointment? May I bring my pet in without an appointment?
We request that you call our office for an appointment (512) 250-1411 as we can better serve our clients and their pets when appointments are scheduled. We will try our best to accommodate your schedule and minimize your waiting time. Emergencies are always first priority. Clients with appointments will be given priority over walk-ins.

3.) Do you board pets?
We have a small but excellent boarding facility, which is available exclusively to our clients. Cats are boarded in a quiet area separated from the dog kennel. Dogs are walked and exercised at least twice daily. We emphasize individual attention to each pet left in our care.

4.) At what age do puppies and kittens get their first vaccinations, and what intervals are puppy and kitten booster vaccinations given?
Puppies and kittens can receive maternal immunity to some diseases when they first nurse which can protect them from these diseases until the maternal immunity is gone. However, the puppy or kitten is unable to form a long lasting immunity on its own until the maternal immunity wanes. There are many variable factors, which may influence how long this maternal immunity will last. Maternal immunity will last in most puppies and kittens for a minimum of six weeks and a maximum of sixteen weeks. For this reason puppies and kittens are usually started on vaccinations around six weeks old and receive a booster every three weeks until they are sixteen weeks old.

5.) Financial Policies
Our policy requires full payment at the time of service. We accept cash, check, Mastercard, Visa, and Discover. A fifty percent deposit is generally required for hospitalization or extensive surgery. If an emergency or severe illness of a pet occurs and an established client is unable to pay the bill in full, special arrangements may be made with the office manager or doctor prior to initiating treatment or surgery.
